All Orthoptists practicing in Canada must have certification from the COC.

Entry to Canadian Orthoptic education programs requires an undergraduate degree from an accredited Canadian university or an international equivalent. The programs are 24 months of intensive academic studies and concurrent clinical experience guided by a national curriculum and  competency profile. Canadian Orthoptic programs are accredited by Accreditation Canada under their EQual program for Health Education (https://accreditation.ca/assessment-programs/health-education-accreditation/programs/).
